Music and Dance Opportunity at CURVE

DMU Music and Dance Talent Sought for Collaboration with Curve Theatre
See below for request for musical input to this exciting production.

Now in its fourth year, the DMU/Curve collaboration connects two of Leicester’s major cultural organisations in the creation of thrilling British theatre for young audiences. Developing the artistic ambition of the project, this year for the first time we are presenting a play with music: Mother Clap’s Molly House by Mark Ravenhill. Inspired by The Beggar’s Opera and veering wildly between a brothel in the 1700s and a 21st Century rave, we are looking to bring this play to life with extraordinary song and dance.

Supported by Curve’s award-winning Associate Director Suba Das and the professional expertise of one of the country’s biggest theatres, we are looking to appoint:

A Musical Director
A talented student from within the DMU Music Technology Degree interested in taking on the challenge of arranging the 12 songs that make up the musical content of the play, providing their own twist and take on the material in the show (originally designed for a five-part chamber orchestra).

A Choreographer
A talented student from with the DMU Dance Degree interested in taking on the challenge of creating movement sequences that accompany the musical transitions in the play and that convey the frenzied, chaotic atmosphere of the debauched world presented in the play.

The successfully appointed candidates will work with Suba Das throughout the Autumn Term to refine their concepts for the show, with rehearsals for musicians and dancers taking place in the New Year before the productions are staged at Curve in March 2014. The successful candidates will be expected to lead on the recruitment of necessary dancers and musicians from within the DMU faculty.

To apply for either of these posts, please email artistdevelopment@curvetheatre.co.uk stating either DMU Musical Director or DMU Choreographer in the subject line. Please provide a maximum of 250 words explaining your interest in this role, identifying any relevant experience to date, and also giving an indication of your ideas for the project (this can be by providing links to examples of your own work, or work that inspires you).
